I'm a die hard icefisherman like the next guy , but i can never understand why someone would risk thier life to go out on thin ice , i'm a big guy 250 lbs and i truely dont feel safe on the ice till 5 to 6 inches
I am also a big guy and feel very safe on 4 inches of black ice, but we all have our own comfort level. I have also been through a number of times and don't fear it much, I can always get myself out... What I hate about going through is it cuts into fishing time! I find driving on 128 at rush hour much more worrying, I can control the ice I walk on, I can get myself out if I go through, but there is only so much you can do when some idiot on a cell phone plows into me... Fear does not keep me from the roads or the ice... And so, I am always watching for idiots on the road (and there are plenty) and on the ice, I walk with a spud, knowing if it takes three "hits" to get through I am safe... I only wish I could do something like that on the road...
