Since you stated "with in a few hours drive" of NE Wyoming, the only good place I know of to ice decent 'gills would be in the Black Hills, chiefly Pactola Reservoir. I believe the record 'gill was caught from a stock pond somewhere around Lusk, WY years ago. Best bet would be to ask and locate a local rancher who may have a few stocked ponds. A few friends of mine went to the Sandhills in Nebraska and iced some amazing Bull 'gills last month! Heck, I'd even drive down there for 'gills as big as they were pulling up!

Any pond in the Nebraska pan handle. Box Butte maybe?

Actually Keyhole has a growing bluegill population.  Not sure where on the lake you would go to target them, but they are there.

Probably hard to beat some of the Nebraska sandhill lakes; such a Smith Lake.  A number of years ago catching 1 lb. bluegills in Smith Lake was a fairly common occurrence.

I've been drooling over the Nebraska trip for a few weeks now. I'm really tempted to run down there and hit up a few lakes, wish they would talk on their report boards a little more

Box is a long way from Sheridan.  Your talking 5 hr plus easy.  Pactola is a way closer to you with a better fishery I think.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time driving to Nebraska to fish, but that's probably the closest place for gills from north east Wyoming. Lived in the panhandle for a few years. What a dump.

Some incredible fisheries too... I've been itching to get over to Branched Oak for years now.... pretty awesome they have Flatheads that reach upward of 70lbs.  Wipers, bluegills you can't fit in your hand.... I think I'd be a happy camper if I grew up in NE or had to move there.

P.S. A few of those gills you caught are absolute studs... I've fished for them in Texas numerous times and its hard to find bluegill that big anywhere in this country.

I actually held, probably still do, the Colorado bluegill record. For some reason, the guy before me is back on the books. I could care less. What I do care about though is that the new pup ate my mount off the wall. Some day I'll have a replica made again. I'll have to locate a picture of that beast. Was 12 3/4" long and had a girth of 13 3/8".

It looks like a mix of Stockade fish. If I was after some gills I would go to Stockade near Custer.

I'm out of SE WY and have looked to target bluegills after fishing in Wisconsin periodically with an icefishing crazy uncle who I actually might think is part bluegill he likes them so much and it has given me an itch to catch some closer to home.  Anyhow we venture a trek to Box Butte 2-3 times a year in pursuit of some different fish other than the trout in the Laramie area and have had a great time catching a mixed bag of fish with the pike and panfish.  Its been a great lake for the kids but despite the desire of catching arguably the best fish for the table in bluegills, we haven't had much luck catching them through the ice at Box Butte.  I've done quite well when finding them in the summer and the quality is great, but in 3-4 years with 1-2 trips a winter, I've only managed a handful of gills.  I will continue my hunt for a quality bluegill day and may go further into NE to give Smith Lake as I've also heard there are some quality gills there.

Speaking of bluegills... They seem to me like the type of fish that can "do no harm".   They are a great forage base for predatory fish and tons of fun to fish for, and excellent table fare.  I've caught a couple of green sunfish at Greyrocks and have always wondered why there aren't bluegills in there.... seems like they would do really well in the rocks, but maybe not if the sunfish are so rare?
