tiger trout
« on: Dec 06, 2015, 08:13 AM »
Me and the boy and Eljay had the chance to go up to Huntington today. We caught our limit. I got one that was 19 inches and 3 1/2 pounds. Our hot lures were gazillias, crappie crickets, and gizzy bugs. Ice looks to be 6 inches and still easy walking. A little slush on top in some places. 50 -60 people on the ice today. Here's a pic.

Yeah I caught 2 of those but one had the orange belly to it. I turned him loose cause he favors the German Brown side more of a white meat and they don't taste as good. They are still a sterile fish but sometimes they will favor the brookie side or the german brown side. You would think it would be the opposite. The white tigers would be the white meat but it's not. So tigers and Splake which is another cross. Splake is a cross between a brookie and a male mackinaw. Are the closest fish I've tasted to brookies.  I don't eat a lot of trout but they make really good smoked fish for my neighbors and friends. :) I don't know where you're from your location isn't on your profile. But here in Utah the record is 19 pounds and something ounces for Tiger Trout. I think the Splake is 17 pounds and something ounces. So for Utah standards the 19 incher is a small tiger. Ive personally caught them up to 6 pounds. I can say this, a 6 pounder will test your gear, your knots, your line and how you play him. If it ever quits snowing here in Utah I would like to go back up and pound those Tigers again. That's an invitation to anybody on the board if you would like to go, give me a shout out. Im just hoping that the chained up wheeler can get in there now. I pack to much stuff out when I go. Merry Christmas to you guys and a Happy New Year. Tight Lines
