Spending the night in Ice Fishing tent alone. Tips?
« on: Dec 19, 2015, 09:43 AM »
Sometime between Xmas and New years I am going to spend the night in my 4 man ice fishing tent alone.  This will be my first time doing this. I think I have thought of everything but any extra tips or concerns would help.   Thanks.

Bring a cot with a sleeping pad. This will keep your backside warm. Buddy heater on mid-town and vent open and you will be just fine.. Oh and maybe a Mat to put down on the ice..
Mom always  said, go out side.. I guess it stuck..

A radio or some type of "player" will make your time alone go a bit better.
Easy on the adult beverages...
Enjoy the solitude, peace and quiet...

I sleep on the ice a few times a season. If your tent is well anchored and skirted in, you should be fine. A cot with some kind of pad, either inflatable or closed cell, a good sleeping bag, a buddy heater, a small fan and you are set.

Make sure you have a flasher.

I like to leave a line in with a bell even when I'm sleeping. It's cool to be awakened in the middle of the night by a walleye or burb taking the bait.

Have fun!

I do this often.  Not always alone.

Zero gravity chair.  Reclines so it's almost as nice as a cot.  Never go without it. Got one for the gf last week and a buddy is getting one for Xmas.

Bells. By the dozen lol.

Lights and battery's, head lamp is a must.

Heater is nice and cot not bad of course, but your four man will be full after a cot.

Matting is nice especially if u leave heat going, could be a pool in there.  Ice cleats are very handy when this occurs.

Make sure tent vents well if using heater.

Glowing jigs are mandatory,  I find dead sticking most effective.  Anchor rod holders well if u sleep through bells lol.  Ensure u adjust drag right.

Go for the full moons.

Best done in late jan through February March in my opinions,  when burbs are extra active.

Luck is just an excuss for poor fishing

Park your  truck  so it will make a good wind break for your tent.

I'd loose the heat while sleeping if you don't have anyone to share "stove watch". IMO, The risk is just too great.

Maybe you could make sure someone knows just where on the lake you are heading and your timings.

I just find that when I'm solo and it's O dark stupid that's when poop goes wrong. Lol.

I like my Coleman lantern on night trips. I use a coffee can instead of the glass....works well for light and heat and good to hop out to the tip up if it goes off.

Hope you have a fun trip and be safe.

Good fishin'!
