Carmi Report 3/15/15
« on: Mar 15, 2015, 07:17 PM »
Headed out to Carmi today with my Dad. Got there around 7:15am and stayed until about 4:00 pm. All in all it was a good day, even though we didn't catch any walleyes. Had a bunch of flags and ended up leaving the lake with five typical Carmi (Whopper) perch. These weren't the only fish that we caught though. We were fortunate enough to land six Smallies and a northern between the two of us, my largest being a 17 incher and my Dads largest being a fat 19 incher.

The wind was supposed to be gusting to around 18 mph, but instead it was howling! Overall it was a great day on the hardwater!  :)

Nice fish - always amazed at color variation within the same watershed.

Very nice catch!
SMB always nice.
The weather forecasters totally muffed the wind.
How did the Clam hold up? Tie down anchors work ok?

They worked fine this time. Some of the big gusts were a little sketchy, but it held up surprisingly well.

We had it strapped down all the way around, mudchuck, and it held up great.  I really think we had a bad pole (at least a bad plastic ball on the end of a pole) when it broke loose on us earlier this year.  Luckily Clam had the hub/pole assembly in stock and we were back in business in a few days.  Now I've got a spare hub and 3 poles in case anything happens again.

You bet it was. Only 21 degrees and with an unexpected, stiff 25 mph wind coming from multiple direction as the day went on. Still loads of fun though!  ;)

Yeah, it was cold and miserable!  I had made hole covers just before this trip out of some interlocking floor mats that we found at Costco.  They are 2'x2' and I think 8pcs in the pack.  I cut a few of them into 4pcs and cut slots with a hole in the middle.  They definitely worked great for that snowy/windy day!
