boot repair
« on: Mar 01, 2015, 09:10 AM »
I have some Kamiks that have split a little on the outside middle of foot.  I would think that I could repair it with something.  Anyone ever been successful doing this?  Thanks.

goop makes lots of different types, so you want the goop for shoes.
thing is, if its splitting now, how much more will it keep splitting after a fix. then the other boot. that crack should be from having your foot doubled over from kneeing on ice. if you keep your foot flat so you sit on top of your toes (top of toe section on ice and your backside on the heels), then it might help them from getting worse.
they are rotting out tho.

Maybe try patching it like you would a tire, don't know if it would last longer than one step...
I used goop to attach a bleacher cushion onto a cooler lid 10 years ago. That cooler has been through a lot and that cushion is still stuck on there. If I remember correctly it seems like I used a tube of goop labeled as outdoor, but I'm most likely mistaken  ;D

You can use a little of the gasket repair you buy in the auto shops and I believe they have some in black. This sticks like heck when dry but always stays water repellant and flexible.

Went by Canadian Tire as they had a sale on these.

Got a raincheck as they didn't have any in stock, so went with Shoe Goo for the interim.  I'll report back how it goes.

Aqua-Seal is what I use on my neoprene waders - check the specs it may work - I've better luck with it than goop products
Trust me, when the Zamboni driver says "You won't catch fish through that hole", he knows of what he speaks.

3M 5200 adhesive sealant (made for underwater boat repairs). Adheres to basically anything and handles 100% underwater exposure. Flexible too......I used it to seal new and old transom screw holes for transducers and the underwater bulkhead compression fitting where the wiring goes thru the transom. Expensive but the best stuff for marine sealing under the waterline.

I just went through the same thing with Kamik Ice Crushers. I purchased them in November 2013. First trip out this ice season my foot seamed to get a little wet and sure enough it looked like dry root. Kamik shoot them an e-mail with photo and they told me my boot dryer was to hot :o Void on the warranty. Tried 3 or 4 different products goop, rubber boot repair, and silicone boot repair. Cracks got worse and outer layer of rubber peeled away from the boot last week. Tossed them out and Just bought a pair of Baffin Crossfire's.
