A pair of ice-fishers in Western Pennsylvania were left astonished by a catch Monday.Nicholas Colangelo and Luke Wholey were out fishing on the Pymatuning Reservoir when Colangelo reeled in a fish that stunned both of them.“The weight was unbelievable, I’ve caught a lot of muskies, but never felt anything like this,” Colangelo told KDKA-TV.Image source: Nicholas Colangelo via KDKA-TVImage source: Nicholas Colangelo via KDKA-TVThe giant Musky, which was suspected of being about 30 years old, measured an astounding 53 inches in length and took about 30 minutes to reel in.“We brought it in through a 10-inch hole in the ice, and it barely fit through the hole,” Colangelo told KDKA.
That's a beauty. I have similar feelings about where I grew up in northern Wisconsin, Stephan. Fortunately, I still occasionally get back to chase river muskies. Perch were a distant #5 among the winter targets there, a nuisance fish you tried to get your bait past to catch the preferred species, so I was pretty surprised by the perch passion out here. If you're talking about Erie, I'd agree you've got some dandy perch there.
Don't understand your post mofish?
Yep.... Erie is "the" perch fishery and where I learned to fish perch. It spoiled me bad lookin back. Didn't realize how spoiled I was till I fished for perch here. After perching on Erie, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the perch passion here...... I have to come to terms with lowering my life long perch standards I guess
I have to agree, Lake Erie is an awesome fishery. Perch by the cooler full (30 /person limit).. And don't forget the walleye. I used to fish Pymatuning for walleye til I started fishing Lake Erie.. Spoiled me, haven't been to Pymatuning since. Limits of walleye for my wife and myself consistently.
Maybe this musky wasn't caught where stated.. ?? One news article say's it came from Pymatuning Res. an other from Lake Authur.. Doubt if either are correct.... Not everyone wants the public to know where they caught their fish...
