what do you think
« on: Feb 25, 2015, 09:27 PM »
There's a lot of close out prices right now at BP Cabelas and the like.  Is it ok to buy line now for next year?

This!

Dick's Sporting Goods has some pretty amazing sales in the Twin Cities right now.  I don't normally think of them for ice fishing stuff, but snagged Power Pro Ice Tec for $6 a spool, and snagged several jigs and spoons for 40% off.  Also had augers and portables 20-40% off.

Ever wondered how old the line you buy for open water really is? There's no best buy date
and unless they change packaging,  how would anyone ever know. I know Berkley
went years without a packaging change on XL, XT and original Vanish. Makes ya think...

depends on the type of line - braid/low memory, keeps forever
                                           - mono/minimal memory in low lb. test - keeps a couple yrs
                                           - fluoro/lots of memory, keeps well about a year
I use almost nothing but fluoro (Berkley) and the 8lb./10lb. and up all gain a lot of memory after sitting a year; even though though they are kept in a cool, dark, dry place.

I usually purchase around this time of the year, for next winter.  never had any problems with the lines I have purchased.  No, I don't usualy keep any more than a couple of years, and yes, do keep them in a cool dark place (no hot garages).  i put mine in the fridge in my garage.  keeps them cool and dark!!

Ever seen what happens when you get your string caught in the motor?
