LX 6 and Hummingbird
« on: Feb 15, 2015, 04:01 PM »
Checked back in the threads, but could not find an answer so if I'm repeating I apologize. I'm currently running two Marcums(LX 6 and LX 5) in a wheel house. I'm getting a lot of interference which cannot be rejected in shallow water and I would expect problems given the power of these units. I'm looking at replacing the 5 with a Hummingbird 45. From what I can gather it looks like there should be minimum interference since they operate different frequencies. Is anyone running this combination and having problems? Thanks.

i have the ice-55 and lx-7 and fish with a showdown near me and have trouble with any interference.
make sure you are on newest software on the lx-6 maybe.
the wife uses the 55 and we are only 3-4 feet apart.

Try to adjust one unit only. Have one unit run 8 and other 20 degree cone and adjust the ping speed on the lx6.

This should work for you.
I run my LX6 and my buddy runs my LX5 in the same shanty with zero interference issues.  I set the cone angle on both to 8 degrees. I have never needed to adjust the ping speed to clear up interference.

Thanks for the tips. I have the latest software so that's not the issue. I will try the cone angles and if necessary the ping speed. The 6 is still new to me and it's obvious I need more education on it. Thanks again.

the marcum shallow water ping rate is recommended to be on 1. i leave it on one all of the time, because it works fine that way. it doesn't need more information from the higher counts.
how high do you turn these units up? should only be just high enough to see your jig. if you use wide beam you have to run them up more to see them, thats why some other brands loose their jigs on wide angle in deep water. i use narrow almost all of the time. the ping rate on 1, the target is zero, the sensitivity on 3-5 using size 3-4 mm jigs. IR on 2-3 all of the time, just because it doesn't hurt to leave it on. open water mode on the lx-6.
put your other sonar on narrow also, they may be over lapping if both on wide beam.

wanted to add some thing, when you start fishing deeper water, you will have to increase your sensitivity to where you can just just see your jigs. if you are scouting for fish you can crank it up all of the way and wave the transducer around to try to spot fish. then set up for them if you find some.
i use graph on left hand side, then vertical in the middle and vertical zoom on right. dash board is ok if you want less graph showing.

Great info. Thanks 3300. As soon as it warms up a bit I'll give these a try.
