FG 1/23-1/25
« on: Feb 02, 2015, 07:50 PM »
Sorry it took so long to get these up but the last week has been a tough one. I have to say it is so hard to lose not only a good friend but a person I consider my brother. We spent many days wetting lines and he was a great man/husband/father/son/brother/friend. RIP

                                                                Martin Corey Quintana 8-25-1972 / 1-25-2015

Now for the rest of the story, We arrived at the gorge to a beautiful day on friday and as usual we brought the wind with us luckily after we got the tents set up where some of the other crew had done ok the night before

After we got set up we headed over to spot we had caught some lakers in the past and had to brave the 25-30mph winds by putting our backs to it for about an hour and called it quits for the way mellower area our tents were up in. 5 of us only marked maybe 6 fish with no takers, Fishon1 one had a great ride back over. Its hard to tell we're even moving

We got back to the spot and tried our luck for lakers around the cliffs with not much luck either. Macks were not wanting to play this trip

The 1st nite yeilded me this 28in fatty burb

Which was a little froze the next morning

Heres a few of the others I happened to get some pics of

and of course some dads stole some bait but not all lived to tell their buddies

We had some great nights and the wind died down for us to get the fire pit going

As you can tell by some of the smiles this trip was a good time

I would like to give a big shout out to Geezer gone wild (sinker seeker) for the great chilly he brought out for everybody on the ice and for the use of his wheeler to haul people and gear. It saved so many of us from walking quite a ways. Mine will not stay home again. During the whole trip our group caught around 30 burbs, 0 lakers/bows and 1 crawdad. Great time on the ice. Thanks also to everyone that came, it was a blast. Post some pics up on here for those that took some. I know who you are  ;)

Tightlines everyone

I have been thinking about you today friend. Wishing you comfort at this time for sure. Good friends like that are hard to find and much harder to lose. I also hope that his family can find peace knowing like you, that we can join loved ones on the other side as well as feel there presence at times here. Love you brother. Looks like you had a great trip again. Love the picture of fishonone. That guy knows how to roll! Good to see most of the guys got a few burbs as well. Take care, Joe

So sorry for your loss Musky, the loss of a great friend is so hard to take. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

What a great time on the ice! My face is still sore from laughing so much. Not many fish were caught but some great memories were made. Thank all of you Shanty men for welcoming my geezer buddies, it was if you had known them for years. By the way who ended up with the biggest fish? If only that 37 inch monster had not gotten off lol.

Thanks Geezer, My fish took half the pot and slapthefish's team took the other half for most. I wish you guys could have caught more but you see how things go now. Sometimes your on them and sometimes they are no where to be found. I had a great time with your buds they had me rolling more than a few times

My condolences! Nice report looks like you guys got enough ling for a meal! How far up the blacks fork arm did you travel? Thanks

Thanks persona, there was a few meals there for slaps team. We were 2 bends up from the end of the lost dog road. we didnt have to travel to far off lost dog road. I believe it was the last right before you get to the end

Great report Matt! Condolences for your loss. Very tough to loose someone close to you.

Thanks Matt, it has been tough and will always be on my mind. A reminder to never take things for granite and enjoy every moment you spend with the ones around you

Again sorry for your loss. I could not imagine losing my best friend who I do consider my brother. On other hand I do wish I ended up going to the bash. We ended up staying in Utah hitting Schofield and Lost creek. Schofield treated us alright only little slimmers and Lost with no fish.
GOT ICE?

My first time out for this event.  I had a great time, learned a lot and met a lot of good folks.  I also caught the most fish, but as my son told me, it was just beginners luck.  YEAH RIGHT!  Seriously, I would like to thank him for getting my old butt out there on the ice and sharing his passion for ice fishing with me.  The whole gang was awesome and has me looking forward to next year.  The best thing about it next to the company kept, that Burbot is mighty tasty.  Thanks to everyone there, that made me feel welcome. ;D

Alrighty, finally got around to posting a couple of pics!

I think we parked in reasonable proximity to the ice!

Highlight of my trip was having the old man accept the invite to partake in the festivities!  Ended up catching the most fish as a single out of the whole group, and I'm pretty sure he had a good time.

Here is a good overlook of the area we fished, the ice gods smiled upon us with outstanding weather and safe ice for the duration of our trip.

A few of us skinned our first burbot with the kind help of the fishing buddies.

Everyone Caught Fish!  Even this guy!  Though I find when you have the camera, you forget to take a picture of your own fish.

One thing I seem to never forget is to make sure we snap a group picture on every trip!  This one was a good one, I did forget to get geezer and the other young bucks before they took off, but what a great time it was.

There you have it, a muskyon style post!  I'd like to thank everyone who made it out and made it fun.  See you all next year!

Awesome pics Son!  I will try and man the camera a little more next year, but those damn Burbot kept biting my line.  Hard to take pics and catch fish at the same time.  Just kidding.  Thanks for helping to keep me young! :woot: and thanks again to everyone else that made this trip so much fun.  Who said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.  This old dog still has a few tricks left in him.

I do remember you guys, it was great meeting you. I still cant believe how much you look like your brother. Bub licked his wounds for a few but is doing good. He's done with the ice unlike the rest of us addicts trying to get one or two more trips in. For sure on next year, I cant wait
