Buy two one doesn't work well ;D

I used to have some. Cross country skis are actually easier...for me at least.

Stay away from natural webbing.. it cracks sucks up water and then breaks . The best I've used are military issue snow shoes . Cheap too . Get them from ssportsman's guide . I got two pair

Its not so much the shoes its the bindings...  Get good ones...
You can have the best snow shoes in the world but if your feet fall out/off of them there worthless.......   Just my opinion..
And that doesn't matter if your wearing one or two.....     ;) ;)   ;D ;D ;D ;D      @) @) @)

I agree on the bindings.  Having them fall off at every step or 3 feet down in a drift is a lesson in frustration and I guarantee you will be making up curse words since the ones you know aren't good enough.

I also suggest buying shoes that are rated for a person heavier than you are.  If you are carrying a pack, factor that weight in too.

I have Atlas, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy MSR.  I think any reputable outfitter could set you up.  This isn't ll bean.  Their bindings will leave you making up words.

I got out with a couple friends, each of which had snow shoes, i did not.  The drag in deep snow and slush was almost effortless for them.  I had one hell of a time gett8 g around.  Made me think about buying a pair.

Snowshoes won't even help much if you hit that slush under the ice that then freezes to the snowshoes.

I have the MSR Ascent snowshoes and they are great.  I have put many miles on them in rough terrain.  Before the MSR I had ATLAS and they were not as heavy duty and broke several times...I plan on using mine to get out this wknd. and I will post how they worked in these conditions.

Mine are Tubbs wilderness 9-30". Not saying they are the best but the bindings are good and have had them for many years. With the advanced shoes you can beat them up pretty good if they get iced up . They are small enough to sit in the flip over with on. Natural ash and webbing do ride higher but are much larger and if the webbing gets wet it will collect tons of ice and tough to clear.
As many have said, the bindings are key. Highly suggest to Bring your pack boots that your wear to the shop and test fit them.

Good luck to all that venture out , i will be out tomorrow and sun with shoes on :)

Tried mine yesterday they worked for a few minutes until the slush came up and it felt like walking with cinder blocks on my feet. conditions are the worst in years.

L.L.Bean makes a series of snowshoe that is really good too. I believe Atlas is the manufacturer but because it's L.L.Bean its guaranteed for life... I have a pair of Atlas in 31" and a pair of Yukons in 32". The aluminum ones are great with the cleats, you can blaze your own trail and you can do really good following snowmobile tracks.
Take your time and make sure you get the right sized shoe. Your weight dictates how long a shoe needs to be to keep you up.
I have fished on snowshoes a few times the last few years and I can promise you a whole new, nearly impossible style of tip-up fishing. If your drinking with friends the snow shoes+ tipups= a lot of laughs ;D
