Hi All,

I get invited to the Rotary derby meeting and every year I give them feedback that we hear from anglers regarding the derby.  It seems the biggest gripe is the Saturday weigh in closing too early... I will let them know your thoughts on that.
My question is your thoughts on the random drawing including both days... the derby is for the weekend so do you think that a second largest fish in a category caught should win the grand prize or should the random drawing just be for the top 7 fish of the derby rather than 14?  I am just curious on anglers views on this.
Thanks,
AJ

AJ - I would think leave it at the 14.  There are lots of people that only get to fish one of the days and for someone who only fishes on Saturday they go home knowing they are in the running if they have the top fish that day.

On a side note, may end of with people hanging on to fish from Saturday into Sunday to see if their fish will hold on before bringing it to Meredith.

But on the other hand, biggest of each fish for the weekend make sense..... I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!!!!!

I think it should be just the top 7 fish eligible for the grand prize. I can envision a scenario where someone who catches a big fish Saturday holds onto it for Sunday if they see it wouldn't be big enough for the top place on Saturday. I don't think that would be fair.

Another idea, I'd actually like to see the prizes for the species increased and the grand prize maybe scaled back a little. Spread the love around. Making the top fish in each species worth $500 would only cut the grand prize by $3500... or cut it down to $10k and increase the prize for a 2nd place fish in each species to $300. That would make it worth someone's drive even if they were fishing far from Meredith. And it would certainly make more people happy and I doubt the grand prize winner would complain about winning $10k.

Nice bottle bass. I would have invested a little more money and had it mounted.  ;D

Yeah no kidding. Instead it got hung on a nail and then chopped up for bird food!!

I like this idea .  Bigger prizes for the board fish to make more people happy with $$
I didn't look anywhere, but is there a number of people registered ?

Most certainly only 7 and do a handicap instead of a drawing making. Daddy always said don't be proud of second place son. your looked at as the first loser!

My 2 cents.......I, like everyone else, like the later weigh in times.  No brainer..  I also like the sponsor idea.  I know that this derby is all about supporting the rotary club and really isn't about the prizes but I do think there is no reason why the prize pool can't grow into something big thus increasing attendants and at the end of the day raising more money for the club.  Seems like to me that the derby has basically stayed the same in regards to prizes etc.  I don't see any reason why with a little marketing/the right sponsors they couldn't grow this thing and really draw in some huge crowds.  Actually thinking about it used to be higher prizes.  I would love to see 100,000 in prizes or more.  Seems very doable without raising ticket cost much if at all.  I think at the end of the day it would draw a lot more people in and raise way more money for the club.
