Not the best day on the ice........
« on: Feb 07, 2015, 02:39 PM »
Lost not one but two auger blades on my first two holes. Luckily I carry spares (old ones). Then I come to find out I left my gaff there last weekend. Could not find it in the snow. AND EAST wind Low pressure system killed us today. No fish! I found a chair which I thought someone left by mistake. As I picked it up I realized it was broken so I am assuming they left it behind because of that. Maybe, hopefully I'm wrong. Still had fun though, sleigh riding with the kids and  friend I haven't seen in along time came along about 10:30....He also had a rough start to the morning. I have to buy new auger blades because the back ups are just that. I should at least get them sharpened.  Still beats sitting home for sure. Thanks for listening, I had to get it out....LOL  :cookoo:

I fished saratoga today and had a ton of fish come in and look but nothing wanting to eat. I use the Aqua vu camera so I could see all different species that should have been hammering my bait. Bad pressure + bad weather = poor ice fishing.

Wow. The odds of a double auger blade loss...LOL.... I have only gotten Bullhead 1 time ice fishing. And it was 2 in 1 day. Big $ for some Bullies....

Mora Strikemaster. Have had it for years. Never have had this happen. I'm thinking I should have tightened them out before this trip. I was going to check and tighten after but for now on I will check before and after every trip. Like I said I have never had this happen....And I have 2,3,4 of everything just because you never know. Forcips, sounders, jaw spreaders, tip ups, clothes.Extra everything. If I didn't have my back ups it would of made for a TERRIBLE day. Screws must have gotten stripped, same for the 1st back up. I will be triple checking everything before next weekend. Along with my new blades.

Hey! You probably know this, but I thought I'd mention it any way. FISH307 has a great blade exchange program. You trade your dull blades for re-sharpened blades. Last time I did it, it was around $13.00, verses $49.95 for new blades. And the exchanged blades cut like new ones. They will even put the sharp ones on for you, if you want. Great customer service!

This was years ago when I first started ice fishing. I bought a used auger from a guy, first time went to use it one of the blades fell off no backup blades. I could see the blade in 10 ft of water as it was very clear. Luckily I was fishing with friends who had been ice fishing longer than me and they had an auger.

Fish307's blade exchange/sharpening service is awesome. Sent some blades to them and they must have been waiting for them as I had them back in 5 or 6 days. I'm in Attica, west of Rochester,  they are in Lake George I think or somewhere up there. I thought it was crazy I got them back that soon.

The closest one I know of is Lake George.  I'll spend the difference in gas. Thank you though. Appreciate the information.

I'm only a few miles from you, in Halfmoon, but I fish up that way. They are open real early, so I get my blades, etc. when I'm up there fishing. Also, they do mail order. Cheap shipping. Lake George is their only location. They are a relatively small, local shop. Also, they have an "open house" like a mini ice fishing show each Dec. They have great specials, factory reps and local experts teaching about different aspects of fishing. Look for the dates next year. They are usually posted on here. It's well worth the trip.
