Looking to try Lake Simcoe
« on: Oct 26, 2005, 09:59 PM »
Howdy all,
I'm looking at planning a trip to Lake Simcoe this year. Does anyone have a recomendation for a place to rent a hut? I will be taking my 13 yr. old. ( poss. a friend or 2 also). Never been up there and have been saying for years that I'd like to try it. Something different to try. I've looked at a few on the internet, but was wondering if anyone has any experience or a place to recomend. Live in WNY. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx !!!!

Might want to try the ontario section of IS. probably get some help there.  :)

Do the leaves of trees stay greener, in the autumn, does the colour of the sun, turn crimson white? Does a shadow come between us, in the winter?

Millermank, A gentleman and I that I met on this site went there last year. He might have more particulars but we fished by Keswick,Ont which is on the S.E. lower corner of Lake Simcoe. We stayed at the NewMarket inn about 15mi south of where we fished. The accommodations were decent but their heaters were a little cool for the -15 degree temperatures! We used a baitshop in Keswick that offered a charter to a three-man ice shanty for $30/day/man. That included trans. and bait (minnows). in a heated hut. E-mail me if you want additional info. Hope this helps.Lou

I have only made one trip up to Simcoe, and I did get much myself. But Cooks bay seems to be a nice entry point. It's the shallow portion of the lake and is good early in the year and late in the season. Good luck.

Also read the new IF magazine Ice Issue it has a write up on Simcoe and some good entry points.

fished cooks bay of lake simcoe alot last season for perch, still has good numbers but not as many jumbos as previous seasons.  u can also go for pike at first ice in cooks bay and the main lake is good for lakers and whitefish.

try these two sites
www.ontariofishing.net
www.fishontario.com

the latter has list of hut operators for ontario.

happy fishing

ps. forgot to mention this site as well

Hade a great experience with Yellow Huts, for a 30-40 mph wind, we still caught fish and were quite warm. Reasonable rates, good bait and excellent workers.
Also stayed in new market, there is a closer hotel called the 409 I believe.

I'm very familiar with the area, as I spend a tonne of time on Simcoe.  If you;re looking for a guided trip, look to Ice Guidez (iceguidez.com). Don is an amazing guy.  You can also try Whitey at Simcoe Fishing Adventures.  he also runs a B and B.  Very reputable service.

Also, check out www.lakesimcoe.com

I have always gone through Caseys Huts.  The man in full of knowledge.  You can spend the night and he sells liciences. a tough find up there.  It's about 2 1/2 hours from North Tonawanda.

I've always fished with Randy out of Port Bolster. The guys who are reputable are usually booked up a few weeks prior to any given weekend so don't wait till the week of your trip to make reservations. On a week day you can often take your pick of operators.
