« on: Jan 30, 2015, 03:49 PM »
I was fishing a lake that has browns and salmon and togue, i had three traps set right under the ice for browns and salmon, i get a flag and the reel is screaming, i missed the fish, the fish took out fourty plus feet of line and my bait had not a scratch on it?

Those darn juvenile fish!
It's the fish equivalent of ringing the doorbell and running!

Wait 'til I get ahold of you kids!!! (while shaking fists in the air)

Me and CTripp had fished a pond for going on three years and each time we went there, we would have the exact thing happen 3 or 4 times each trip also they would stop running as soon as you touched the trap. Finally it took Madeline my 6 yr old to land them.

I have a theory that when that happens they are taking my weight or swivel and running with it and I pull it out of there mouth.

sometimes they're not really hungry and just take it cause its there. but usually there is some kind of bite mark. unless its perch or a bass! @)

Interesting... When I had to switch from lead split shot to those shiny crappy things this happened quite often. Now that I use the green one's it seems to have stopped.

Had that happen a bunch of times the last time I was out fishing, would walk up and the spool would be screaming line off go to set the hook and nothing on it.  I threw a circle hook on one of the traps and let them run and chew on it a bit and ended up with a brookie.  But I've seen it happen while fishing for just about anything, sometimes the fish just act a bit funny.
