Pink Tip-Up Massacre
« on: Jan 25, 2015, 12:34 PM »
Went fishing yesterday with my gf, our son and his friend.  We setup next to our buddies permenant shack and another buddy of ours had his snowmobile over there.  It was a good time however our buddy accidentally ran over the neighbors wife's new pink tip up!  How he didn't notice I'm not sure but to make the peace I coughed up my girlfriend's pink tip-up that she hadn't used yet.

Now she's kind of upset which I understand.  Hopefully our buddy will come thru with a replacement without having to bust his chops about it.  I figured a tip up for a tip up was better than just giving loot over.

To the people's who's tip-up it was, we again apologize!

I have had my equipment run over by snow machines and atvs, that I'm about ready to rig a cable to pick them off when they go flying by at excessive speeds! Not a single one has ever stopped to say sorry or offer to replace my broken equipment.

Have you tried marking your equipment better? Some folks set their tip ups below the snow level making it impossible to see riding or walking.

As for snowmobiles, they have as much right to the lakes as people fishing. Can't we just get along?

I've only had one trap ever run over cusking and I can say that guy was not about to turn around and make it right. You did the right thing and replaced his trap now hopfully your buddy replaces yours.

Over the years, we have had a few hit. I am sure there are the same ones that hit my markers in the Summer. It is all a part of living in a world with "people". Most are "very good" and some are "#@*&%#"...we have to live with them all. Besides " if the world was full of orthodontists when I was a kid, there would have been no one named BUCKY"....H2L

Check the laws, snowmobilers need to be at least a hundred yards from ice shacks while riding at speed.  Tipups arent supposed to be out further than that from your shack.  if people set further away then its on them, if the rider is a jerk and to close....its on him.  These are wi laws, your mileage may vary.

That's a pretty good trick, I know if I saw a guy setting out pink tip ups I'd give him plenty of room.  ;)  ;D

Ever notice that when 4 wheelers and snow machines 1st get on a lake they all ride in the same track till the branch off in their own direction. Well 1 year I was riding my wheeler back around noon, I came to the well packed trail and a guy 150 yrds. in front me started waving his arms franticly, so I slowed down a bit and then I noticed a Polar style tip up right smack in the middle of the trail. Now I know the lake is open to everyone, but wouldn't you think he would have sense enough not to put a tip up there. Now a non fisherman on a snowmobile might not be so inclined to slow down or even notice the low profile tip up. We're all out to have fun on the ice no matter what we do out there, a little common sense and respect on both sides would eliminate any problems. ???

Yep! Had large marker flags up, bright flo orange, and even had an extension cord, also orange, 4' above the ice! I'm sure the fact that they were staggering drunk had something to do with it!!
