Fl18 question
« on: Jan 26, 2015, 07:50 AM »
I have an fl18 and this year I noticed while using the zoom if I leave it running when I move it to another hole if its out more than a few seconds when I drop it back in the zoom side doesn't show the bottom. If I switch it back to normal then back to zoom its back fine or off then back on its fine. It's not the biggest inconvenience ever but I hate to think something's wrong with it. For all I know this could be normal I've had it 3-4 years and never really used the zoom so much until this season. Anybody else have any experience with this?

your zoom locks on the bottom,,so when you move it,,it has to reset and zoom in again..just power off and back on..

Are you using the "BL" or the "AZ" mode.  I use the "AZ" mode I and I haven't seen mine do that.  I've had it since 2006.  I'm going out today again and I will pay more attention to it.

When I'm hole hopping I leave it off until I mark a fish and then hit the zoom. Sometimes it will work just leaving it in the zoom mode and hopping, sometimes not and sometimes it will fatten the bottom a couple of feet. Not sure if it has to do with the bottom make up or not but thats my guess. Another problem with the unit is fishing sharp breaks it will fatten the bottom reading as well. One trick is to turn the unit to normal, increase the gain to around 8, flip it back to AZ and then back the gain down.
Never tell a fish where its supposed to be

I called Vexilar last week and requested a DVD, They sent me one FREE. It was here in three days. It is very informative, I watch my Video every year before fish to get a refresher on how to use it. Now I can watch it on a dvd.
