Temps in the 40's and heavy rain tomorrow night! That will do it for the Cape for awhile and possibly the rest of the season!

Not all is doom and gloom, I got one pond near me with 4" of solid ice.  Another small pond with safe ice, and a cove of one of the larger ponds that was safe today.  It will thin out with the rain, but what happens next depends on the temperature.

as of thurs  sad :'( small pd have a e-z  ft plus of snow, ice is 2 to 3-4inchs thick snow ice then black  , big, n lakes  ponds like johns have no or little snow but ice is white snow like  2 or 3 in  ??? biggest problem is no where to park  to get on the ponds still 2 ft of snow everywhere and no melting yet

Be real careful! open holes turn into drains when the snow weighs down the ice. Those holes become quite large and the ice tapers toward the hole. This causes the ice to be thin 3 or 4 feet from the hole. You cant always see that due to snow.

Not much of a problem for most of the cape ponds since we have not been able to get on the larger ones to drill holes.  Raining today with a good cold stretch to follow. Ice may be doable.   But as mentioned parking will be an issue.

I'll be checking a place tonight and bringing a shovel to park. Hoping to find some fishable ice for at least Sunday and maybe tomorrow. Although that wind will be an issue.
