5 mile pond

Drove by 5 mile pond this morning while working it's good and solid practicly walked all the way across and back😃

I heard they stopped the stocking program this year?  I have never ice fished the pond. Heard they pull salmon out?

The broodstock salmon stocking program in MA stopped last year. My understanding is that basically the conclusion was reached that after many years of trying the program wasn't going to get salmon back in the CT River and was discontinued. 5 Mile got fish each year during the program, but it's extremely unlikely that any of them hold over. I've fished 5 mile a few times, never lit the world on fire but caught some bass.

5 mile is great for the kids. Small/medium shiners on a 2 or 4 hook.

The salmon start to get a fungus and die.... this small pond can barely hold over the trout never mind the salmon.  It is a very good pond for pickerel and small bass... it gets extremely heavy fishing pressure all year long from shore.  I have caught a few 3-4 lb large-mouth through the ice but as stated, its great for kids.  Lots of flags on pickerel.
