newbie to ice fishing
« on: Dec 22, 2014, 06:40 PM »
Hello guys, i live in West Bend, this will be my first year ice fishing. My 6 yr. old son and I plan on doing some fishing this year.

I was just curious when you guys get to a lake, do you already know where you are going to fish or do you just pick a spot and fish? Any good tips for consistent panfish to keep my son interested?

I did sign up for the online tournament on here, but don't worry, you won't have to worry about me winning or even coming close.

Good luck to all this year fishing and Merry Christmas.

Thanks old goat, I will keep that in mind. Around what time of the season do they do that?

Welcome to the Shanty.   Remember to either keep the outings short, or bring things along to keep your son interested if the fish are not biting.  If I were you, I would try and fish shallow lakes that provide plenty of action so that you both have fun going out.  Then as you get some experience you can invest in some of the more expensive gadgets for fishing such as a flasher, power auger, shack, etc...  However if you find you do not like it, you will not have as much invested in it.  I am sure some of the locals will give you some pointers on where to go, and what to use.  Good Luck!

I've always been very open to anyone that comes along as far as helping them out with tips: bait, color or depth that I'm finding them.  I learned that from an old timer that I used to fish with.  Now I'm the "old timer" and am willing to pass it along.
Shut up and fish.
