is it fish and game or the legislature? Looking at some up coming bills, the fish and game dept. is in for a fight and maybe the sportsman also.

Hmmmm I seem to remember this rumor floating around last year...maybe the year before...not sure where it started or why it would even be an issue. The discussion last year even included worms and etc.  Think it had to do with importation?
If I\'m not fishing, I\'m probably thinking about fishing...And if I\'m thinking about fishing, I\'m probably not getting much else done so, I might as well go fishing...Yeah, I just said that!

Interesting, would be unfortunate if this is true. Do we have any documentation or evidence of such claims? That way it would give us some perspective and possible avenues if we need to lobby against such things.

SB 87--standardize the prohibition on statewide transport of live fish--I know nothing of the content of the bill ???- after being told at two different watercraft inspection stations this summer, that leeches were to be dumped on the ground if you did not have a receipt of purchase, I'm a little jumpy.

How about banning the introduction of non native trout like brown trout?" or hatchery raised "pelletheads" rainbow cloned trout? Im sure your cutthroat cant deal with
all the other trout? but i guess it comes down to the $$$$$$$$$$$$

guess I don't see your point? You want only native trout out here? No hatchery fish? What do they do in PA?

What is the point in taking away live minnows?  Has anyone heard of any news on this, or your thoughts?

Is it VHS they are trying to stop? If so it only takes one hatchery trout infected to pass to all trout in hatchery, then to every lake ,river, stream they are stocked!!!
Blam it on the minnow users so they can sell stamps.  .

Don't know the intent of this bill yet. Assume it may be for bucket biology but the words live fish sure means minnows also. For impru, only certain parts of the state can use live minnows. Forbidden in the rest of the state.

I have been saying very similar things. In my opinion...if a fish being stocked can not reproduce, then it should not be in our waterways. (Tiger Muskie included)

If a species can reproduce, then stocking beyond the carrying capacity ends up hurting the population.

Cutts are simply politically correct rainbows when stocked in a lake. If you want trout in a lake you have to stock 99% of the time.

I imagine the use of black helicopters is implied although not specifically mentioned.

You really should read what's in the proposed legislation before jumping to conclusions:

 (3)  A person may not possess, ship, or transport live fish away from the body of water in which the fish were taken except:

     (a)  as provided in Title 87, chapter 4, part 6, or as specifically permitted by the laws of this state; or

     (b)  fish species approved by the commission for use as live bait and subject to any restrictions imposed by the commission; or

Sure would hate to see a harmful fish accidentally introduced through live minnows mess up one of our prime fisheries. It's happened in other states.  I'd rather protect Montana fish than protect my right to use a minnow. I can make due with something else. We can't unscrew up a lake.

Sounds like one of their language clarifications.

I have also read somewhere that the Commission is talking about adding/changing rules in regards to seining minnows as well.  I think their thoughts on this one have to with the possibility that some damage could be being done to native minnow populations.
