Like any body of water that is controlled by damn water fluctuations be very careful as the water can be dropped and end up below the ice. I tried on a reservoir once and when I drilled the first hole no water came up, when I got on my knees to look the water was about 8-10 ft below the ice. Super scary and I tip toed my way off and thanked my lucky stars, so be cautious out there!
