Clam ''Ice Auger Conversion Kit''
« on: Nov 22, 2014, 06:58 PM »
Anybody out there that have used one of these yet. I bought one towards the end of last ice season and tried it out a couple of times. I had a borrowed 18 volt Dewalt and was fairly happy with it. I just got a 20 volt Dewalt brushless hammer drill with a 4 amp battery and I hope to give a good report when I go out next time.

I have one used with a milwakee fuel cell. I will never buy a gas auger. Love it.

Are you using the 6'' auger that comes with it ? How many holes can you get on one battery ?

Yes, using a 6" auger. Last year through 24" ice, I got 18 holes on 1 battery and it still registered half charge. To be honest I didn't run it until it was dead so I don't know if that is a true half charge or how close to dead it really was. But still impressive.

The Milwaukee batteries will just quit , you cant run till "dead"!  Its a built in safety feature I think only Milwaukee has.  It will just stop, they change batteries.  Other batteries will run slower and slower which puts extra strain , till they die!  Montana what size battery came with your drill?

On a good day you only need one.... ;)

I carry 4 because I like to move around a lot. With a 7" laser and 10-12" of ice a 1.5ah battery gets about 20 holes. I upgraded to the 3ah batteries.

My batteries are the 4.0 amp hr. I take 2 with me. Never had to use the 2nd one yet. 37 holes through 5-6" good clear ice and still had 3 out of 4 lights on my battery. I am sold on this set up, especially for the amount of ice we get.

We went to Arod today. I got over 50 holes in 10'' of ice and still have 2 out of 3 lights lit on my 4 amp Dewalt battery. This thing is great.
