Any panfish lakes?
« on: Nov 29, 2014, 08:19 PM »
Hi guys, first time poster on the Colorado forum.  Moved to Cheyenne a couple of years ago from SD, and I might go crazy if I have to settle for catching 9 inch stocked rainbows again this winter.  All the lakes around Ft. Collins are closer to Cheyenne than any of the warm water lakes in Wyoming.  Are there any lakes/ponds in the area that hold perch/crappies/gills you would be willing to share with a Cheyenne guy?  (remember i'm from SD, so I can't be that bad of a guy, right?)

See the post entitled "Panfish" below by one of your comrades from Wyoming.  Many of the ponds in Ft Collins do not allow ice fishing.  Boyd Lake near Loveland is probably one of the best for panfish in NoCo, IMO.

I saw that post after I created mine, my bad.  But anyway, are there any ponds down there that hold pannies, or is Colorado as backwards as Wyoming when it comes to fisheries?  Really miss my warm water species.

Awesome.  That's only about an hours drive from Cheyenne, and I would be willing to do it more than once this winter if it meant I could catch something other than a 9 inch pellet head.  Maybe we can meet up sometime and spend a day on the water.  I assume the water down on the front range isn't really fishable until January?

How far are you from the Weathland Reservoirs? I used to fish there when I lived in the Denver area. 180+ Miles one way but it was worth it.

Wow that is close. There used to be Walleye and Cutbows in there when I fished them.

Yes, probably around the first of the year for Boyd.  You are cordially invited to spend a day with me looking for the perch, crappie and bluegill, along with white bass, walleye and of course the trout.  Some nice largemouth and smallmouth as well.  Nice lake for multiple species.  We'll keep in touch.
