While we wait for ice...plans/projects?

I don't know about all of you, but this is really getting to annoy me. No sign of cold weather or ice here in Des Moines and I'm losing hope. Heck I could still be open water fishing right now. We might not be on the ice till January or Feb at the rate we are going. Extended forecast shows 50's..... 50's IN DECEMBER!!!! How are all of you holding up? Any ice fishing plans or projects started while we wait?

I'm not too excited either.  I have a large Kickstarter project that is keeping me busy for a while, but I've been making good progress already.  So I'll be bored most of December, I may travel north or find a small public pond.  I see ice is just starting on okoboji.  I'm 1 hour north of you on 35.

I'll be redoing my "Smitty Sled" within the next week. My previous one broke last year hauling firewood to the winter campsite. (Too much weight)
I gotta say, it's getting me pretty excited for some fishing. Just moved to a new house with a park/pond right off the back fence.

Battery box and DC outlet for the otter, that way I can see my beer and charge my phone while I'm in the garage sitting in the shack waiting for ice.

Just gotta put lights in my shack and I might get a hyfax kit. I still need to spool up a couple reels. I'm also tying a bunch of tungsten flies for myself and others. I have plenty to do still. But I still wish it was time to fish!

Got a new reel, now I am trying to decide on a new rod. Thinking about 13 fishing rod. Looking into a trip up to the Webster area in SD. Not looking very promising for the Omaha area.

I just got my first shelter. I'm figuring out what additional items I want for it. Some things that come to mind are a thermometer, a tent light, maybe some roll up rubber mats or something for part of the floor.

What kind of extras do you like to bring along that go with having a shelter?

Last weekend I finished a shack rack on the snowmobile, with a minor modification it will also mount to my ATV. Was a fun way to pass a couple days while waiting for ice...
