ice cleats
« on: Nov 23, 2014, 06:19 PM »
What's the best ice cleats you can strap on boots. I had a step latter slide out from underneath me 3 weeks ago and shattered my elbow. After having 3 plates put in it, I would like to have a better set of cleats. I hope the elbow heals enough, that I can jig a rod and drill wholes.

http://hillsound.com/hillsound-product/trail-crampon/           This is what I use very aggressive design, no slippage!!  I think about $50, well worth it after trying to save $ with cheaper brands!!

I use Yaktrax pro. They have good grip and dont make the loud crunching noise when walking across the ice.

These are great on bare ice but once the springs get packed with snow or slush they're usless.  I'm going to switch from the Yaktrax to the Kahtoola this season.

No only packing with snow ,the coils will come undone and catch your pantleg, or carpet in the back room!!  Took them back and they replaced them , no problem, and the second pair did it ,so went with the hillsound no problems, ever,!  Im not trying to sneak up on anyone, Im trying to keep from falling on my a**!!!

I'm with Stinkybaits-
Katoola are great. A little difficult for this old man to get on, so I just put them on my pac-boots and leave them on. Change boots when I get to the lake. Looks like the Hillsound Trail Crampons are the same and a bit cheaper.

i have went with the small spikey ones because the cleats that have teeth, like the one from beans shown will slice your opposite rubber part of your boots if you get lazy and not pay attention to where you put your feet!...i'm getting old and sometimes when i have been fishing all day, my opposite foot sort of angles over the top of the other boot and it will slice a nice gash into that bottom portion(rubber) of my pacs....steve

I use a pair of yaktrax XTR extreme.  They give me great traction.

Anyone have advice on sizing for the Kahtoola to fit over size 9 Kamik Pac Boot? Any help would be appreciated.
