Bluegills in Lake George?
« on: Apr 08, 2015, 04:23 AM »
I've caught numerous pumpkinseeds while ice fishing for perch but never saw a bluegill in LG.  Are they around?  Or maybe they just stick to shallower water than I fish for perch in the winter.

Only seeds and redbreast sunfish in LG.

Maybe this will help you distinguish between the 2. Capt jj is a guide on LG and he knows whats in the lake!

I am sure they are in there but LG does have a predominance of pumpkinseeds and redbreast. Also rockbass. It is a rocky lake, I think gills like shallower more sandy flats.

All of the fish species in LG are listed on the right, the author was a biology professor of mine in college.

^ Yup, 28,000 acre lake, not a single bluegill. The Professor hath spoken.

DEC also doesn't have them listed, in fact only a few water bodies in Warren County have them. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/32368.html

Being "sure" they are in there because the lake is big, doesn't cut it in science.  ;D

By that rationale there must be walleyes in the lake too!
