Rod holders for snowmobile
« on: Jan 24, 2012, 04:43 PM »
I want to mount some rod holders on my machine. Anybody got any ideas.  I do have a Johnson rack on the back but I got to take it off when I load my trailer so  I'm trying to avoid the back.  Anybody have rod holders on the front of your  machines.  Any pics or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Berkley makes a flush mount removeable rod holder, it swivel 306* and runs about 12 bucks, I have 2 on my kayak deck, they are thrubolted though, just so you know !

the 1 1/2 straps used to anchor PVC pipe to walls and floor joists could be screwed or riveted on to the sides of the track tunnel and short pieces of PVC pipe wouldn't stick out or hang up on anything.

Thought I'd revive this thread because I just finished my rod holders on my 1989 yam enticer 400 LTR.  Holders are out of an old rod shipping tube someone sent me rod blanks in from ebay.  I think it's 1.5" PVC it's the thinner stuff not schedule 40.  I cut in a z to each pvc and positioned the bottom of the Z (where the reel stays in) to offset one another when the reels are in place.  The back rack is 3/4" square bar the plywood is 3/4" marine with 4" wide pieces.  It is held onto the rack with 1" u-bolts with another small piece of plywood to make sure it has enough to bolt onto.

If you have a front rail something similar to this should work, I would switch to 1/2" plywood though so when you tighten down the u=bolts the plywood would conform to the bend in the front rail.  If you don't have a front rail then I'm not to sure on how to mount anything else.  I'm debating putting more rod holders on the front bar or modifying a auger holder.

I use two rocket launcher units on the support brackets leading to the auger rack along both sides.  Hard to see one in this pic but follow the support bracket up and you'll see it.
