Favorite Clam Seating
« on: Sep 11, 2014, 07:28 PM »
Hello,

Wondering whats your favorite Clam Fish Trap seating system ?
I have only had two..

the old sliding bench seat with blue carpet .....and the double tube sliding gray folding seat system.

The old bench seat was the lightest but not real comfortable

The sliding double tube with the gray folding seats is comfortable but heavy.

I have used alum lawn chairs....light but sometimes hard to get in the right position. Seems to be back to far from the holes.

Always looking for light yet comfortable seating systems.

What are some of the seats you guys use ?

I bought the clam scout last season and it came with the folding/reclining seat.  It's not the most comfortable as far as cushion but the reclining part is pretty nice.  I stuck a couple of therma rest seats to the seat bottom with Velcro and it worked out pretty well for me.

the new mesh seat of this years Scout XL TC and Scout XL Thermal looks to be promising. I worked the Clam booth at the MN state fair and had a chance to sit in the new mesh chair. surprisingly it was comfortable and the best part was the high back on it. looking forward to fishing out of my Scout XL Thermal this year(picking it up in 2 weeks). the Deluxe seats on some of the other models are nice too. I have a deluxe seat in my Clam Legend from last season.  My Scout EXP from last season has the swivel seat (the one people refer to as reclining). it is okay but you do need to get up and walk around every now and then or your legs will fall a sleep from sitting on it too long. (at least that is how it is for me). it really boils down to personal preference.

Was comfortable with a stadium seat mounted to the side of a milk crate last season.

Milk crate holds everything for transport, then rotate over and sit on the stadium seat.  I did reinforce the milk crate with a couple 2x4's on the open side so they are vertical when the seat is up.

Ain't fancy, but it's better than a bench and lighter than a boat seat.

Any photos of the new mesh seat from Clam ?

I see that Eskimo has a mesh seat on some of there pull over shelters. I wonder who make the mesh seats ?

the only picture that I know of as of now is the small one in this years catalog. If you PM me your email address I can take a up close picture of the mesh seat tomorrow night after I put my new Scout XL Thermal together. I pick it up tomorrow at the Clam Pro Staff Day. I am one of the Clam Power Sticks.

it is really comfortable. the thing I really like about it is the higher back on it. the true question will be to see if there will be any sagging in the mesh with time. I hope this doesn't happen. as for lightening the house it didn't that much. the heaviest part of the whole seat assembly is the tubes the seat are hooked to, the house still weights in right around the 50 lbs mark like other Scouts. the mesh seat is only offered on the Scouts this year.
