Fishing with long rods on the ice, your thoughts?

Anyone of you guys use long rods on the ice, in shallow or early ice?

What are your thoughts, what do you use? 

I saw a pretty cool long rod design in this years Ice Guide by In Fisherman! Any of you guys check it out?
