Sacarider
« on: Mar 19, 2014, 06:27 PM »
Caught a small mess of some of those nice Sacarider bull gills yesterday. Didn't take a picture, but was happy to catch some through the ice out there. Usually do very well @ ice-out on the flyrod, but as anyone who fishes, or has fished there the bite can be extremely tough through the ice.... I'm ready for those 9-10 inches bulls on my #4 weight flyrod..... ;D

Haven't been on there in years.  Use to be one of the favorite lakes of a friend of mine.  Glad you got a mess!  I think about it when I go by headed to Sylvan.

Haven't fished that lake in probably 30 years. My uncle used to take me and my cousins there. The 3 of us boys would have to wrestle a 14' steel rowboat out of his pickup, into the lake, and then back in the truck. Actually 30 years ago I was 25 so it must have been more like 40 years ago. Geeze that makes me feel old!
Tight lines everyone!

I had fished Sacarider a lot years ago then moved to different haunts. Went during open water last year and was shocked at the number of boats out on that small lake. In the past be out and not see another person all day. The day I was out there were 15 rigs, trolling and casting both.

I really hate it when I get to thinking back about things I've done or seen, especially when it turns out it was longer ago than I originally thought!!  I'm "feel'n" for on this one!!  Kinda like when I go to the Doctor (which I try to stay away from at all cost these days) He always has the same answer as to "why" I'm having whatever problem that is ailing me at the time!! (no, I won't repeat it, as it just irritates me to have to hear, what I already know!! :P)

cool picture....lol. Don't feel bad... I fished it for about 15-20 years before I figured it out enough to catch even more than a few of the big ones. Now it's been sorts a passion of mine to figure that place out since I know it has huge gills. Now I can catch them on a somewhat reg basis, but only during certain times of year and locations. But still might go out 2-3 times in a row during the harder times and not catch one keeper fish.

I live across Drake road from Sacarider and have fished it a hand full of times this year.  Just started ice fishing last year so this year was my first attempt at this lake.  They are hard to catch but there are bigguns in there like icefly has stated.  I wish it were a bit easier as it is all of 60 seconds from my front door.
That's some tasty iced tea.

The road down there was hard to get to this year with the snow and my car. Wanted to give it a try, but couldn't make it down. Need a truck by next season

Yeah, nobody plowed that road all season to my knowledge and I drive past it twice a day.  If I had a plow on my truck I would've done it myself.

Or, if I would've bought a snowmobile like I threatened to do I could've hauled my shanty behind me from my house over there ;D
That's some tasty iced tea.
