Marcum VX-1 Pro or LX-3tc
« on: Mar 05, 2014, 06:22 PM »
I am looking at buying a flasher. I was going to buy a new VX-1, but then I got an opportunity to buy a LX-3 that is only a month old and used twice. The VX-1 is $299 new and the guy wants $300 for the LX-3. I am new to flashers, so I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on which way to go?

I can't say about the two models you are contemplating. However, I have the Marcum LX-5 and love it. Fishing is a lot more fun and productive too. Especially having a variable zoom feature that makes it possible to feel the fish bite and see it bite at the same time. Way cool! I am sure you will enjoy whichever unit you decide to buy. Good Luck!

LX3TC hands down.

It has an adjustable zoom (VX is fixed to the bottom), double the power, 6 more levels of interference rejection, and a little better target separation.

I have the old style VX1, had it for about 5 or 6 years and I love it.  That being said, I hope to upgrade to a LX5 or 7 next year.  The VX1 is a great flasher for the money.  Also, like it says above, any flasher is better than no flasher.  The only part that sucks is actually seeing how many fish won't hit your lure. >:(

For the same price its a no brainer, LX3-TC - True Color, Better Target Seperation,  2x the power, 2x the Interference Rejection, Zoom anywhere in the Column vs Bottom Only.

I loved my VX1 Pro for what it was, but I had a chance to get a barely used LX5 and its staying with me.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. The guy already sold the LX-3tc before I had a chance to get back to him, but I just ordered an LX-5 from Reed's they are on sale for $435 with free shipping. The Lx-5 seems to have a few more features so I decided to dish out the extra cash and go for it. Now I can't wait for it to get here!

You will love the LX-5! I got mine from the same place.  The superfine line, better target separation, and dual cone angles are worth the extra money IMO

I just got a vx-1 pro this year.  I can easily say that I have caught at least 4 times as many fish as I would have without it.   The only downside is that it has a hard time reading a soft or weedy bottom.  This creates a 6 in. to 1 foot blind spot where I can't see my lure or the fish.  I don't know if better flashers also have this problem.

No problems.

I do all types of fishing; but I am Die hard Ice angler.
I love Ice Fishing the lakes of Rutland County. Recently moved to NY and now will be Ice fishing the Lakes Of New York.
