Ion 8" auger
« on: Feb 12, 2014, 03:03 PM »
After weighing all the pros and cons..gas vs electric, I decided on a Ion 8" electric. But I soon found out finding one wouldn't be easy this late in the season. There were a few 6"s around but that's all I could find until this morning...Reedssports contacted me that they had one available after an eBay nonpayment..so now its MINE!!
No more hand drilling through 20"of ice..YAY!!
Definitely interested in any tips, pros and cons on the auger from the forum. As soon as it arrives I'm going out and punching 20 holes, just because I can  ;D

You will love it. Second season for mine. Broke rubber strap that holds battery on. Still works fine without tho. Over 150 holes without sharpening blade. Enjoy!

I bought a 6 inch on clearance at Bass Pro for $330 and threw my 8 inch eskimo bit on. Sold the 6 inch Ion bit for $100 on Ebay so I got an 8 inch for around $230 It cuts amazing I love it.

THE most effortless ice drill I have ever used...barely takes two hands, no sore shoulders or bracing yourself against it just don't let the battery cold soak for too long. don't leave it in the pickup overnight, or let it lay on the ice for hours...

If I\'m not fishing, I\'m probably thinking about fishing...And if I\'m thinking about fishing, I\'m probably not getting much else done so, I might as well go fishing...Yeah, I just said that!

How often do you have to recharge?

How often do you have to recharge?

suppose to to be able to drill 40 holes through 2ft of ice before recharging...so they say. And it recharges in 2 hr's or less.

Met a guy on Nelson who swears by them.  Said he'd never buy another gas auger to save his soul.

I have the 8" ION. I have never drilled enough holes to completely drain the battery. My wife and kids can even drill holes with it! I can drill holes in the shack, haul it inside the vehicle all without the gas fumes. I won't go back to gas ever again.
