When I'm not in the shop or out checking ice conditions, I spend most my time working with the local fishing organizations and various other community projects. A few years ago I was invited to a meeting about creating this Friends group that would work with the Army Corps of Engineers on recreation and educational programming, such as last months seminar on Ice Fishing Tioga County. I saw this as an even bigger opportunity to help give back to the fisheries and parks that have meant so much to me since I moved to the area almost 10 years ago. I've served as Vice President of the Friends of Tioga-Hammond & Cowanesque Lakes since its creation and this year I took over the presidency.
Finally, after over 2 years of work, we are opening up to the public! Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11th at 7Pm at the Ives Run Visitor's center, we will be having a ceremonial signing of our cooperating agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers with a meet and greet to follow. If you are interested in any of the Corps projects here, or like to visit the lakes, then I encourage you to come out tomorrow and listen to what to we have to say and meet some of the other Friends members.
I was up in Elmira at WENY for an interview last Thursday morning about the Friends organization. You can check that out here-
I'll be speaking for a few minutes, along with members of the Corps, then we will have a meet & greet afterwards. Hope some of you can make it!
