I dont fill mine anywhere near full. 100 yards or so is all I need. I guess it depends on how you use it. If I were fishing 100ft deep for lakers I would load more than I would for 50ft or less pannies.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

  • Ditch the bobbers and get a 'tight line'

I use fluorescent/lime green dacron as backing, leaving room for 50 yards of main line.  This is what I use on my fly reels and the plan for my new 6061's and cgi's.  I also take the spool off and build up a 1/4" steel rod to slide in the spool to attach to cordless drill to spool in the line nice n level.

I've used a Berkley Spooling Station for open water / ice reels for years. Great product.
