sat fishing
« on: Jan 27, 2014, 08:50 AM »
started at the crack of dawn. good thing cuz when that wind picked up around 1030 it was time to leave. wind gusted so hard it blew the traps out of the holes and sent us running for stuff down the glass ice. ended up with 2 bass 2 pickerel and a perch. Dan caught a nice big male rainbow.

I fished Buckmaster in Westwood on both Sat and Sun for a few hours each day.
Sat from 9:00 until 2:00 when the wind started to pick up more and more.
Jigged with worms and landed a bunch of sunfish and some large crappies.
The best part was while using the Showdown, I could see a line on the display suspended about halfway down, and when I raised the jig up to it....BAMM crappies! Almost every hole had something.

Sun fished from 9:30 until 1:30 and the wind and cold just beat me down.
I didn't catch as much as Sat, but I did manage a few decent bass and some hand sized sunnies.
I did have one fish break my line right after the hook set. Was probably a pickerel, but it felt great for the approx. 3 seconds I fought it.  ::)

All in all it was a good weekend, weather being considered.
I wasn't sure the ice would have survived, but I had 4" near the shore and 5-6" further out.
I fished the western shores, mainly due t the wind directions, and the ice was 6" there.

Depending on what today's weather brings, we should see some more ice forming over the next few days, which is a good thing!!!

Nice.

I wish I had ice like that, mine's all slush ice on top and ugly grey...
