Lx 3 value
« on: Jan 06, 2014, 03:47 AM »
A friend of mine let me use his lx 3 and I am considering making him an offer. Other than being a little noisy it works very well, it's in like new condition with a new battery. What do you think is a fair price?

I have seen them anywhere from 175 to 300 on c-list around here. so I would say thats fair

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

225-300 would be fair , i would be concerned with it being noisy .
and make sure the screen isnt jumping , thats a sign of a bad motor .
i just got one back from service after 1 yr -motor went bad , i own 2 lx3 love em.
i have a co-worker that just bought one new and the screen is jumping and he is sending back for service .
i think marcum had a bad batch go out .
good luck.

I bought a used LX-3 in late 2012 for $225 and fished with it last season - its transducer was bad, but even a bad ducer is better than no flasher.  I swapped out the transducer this past summer ($25 on sale new), so I guess you could say I have $250 into it and it's a great piece of equipment.

Thanks for the help, I am a little concerned that it has a bad motor now, I was talking with my friend about it and he said that he only used it 3 times. He thinks he bought it 3 years ago and I only used It once, so I guess my question is... How do I know if the motor is  bad and is it worth buying and fixing if it is? The unit worked perfectly, but louder than I expected. I guess that I would call it humming. Do they normally hum?

I bought mine in July off of ebay for $143 without a battery and is the original not the TC but it works great. Bought it for a backup for my 18.
Or when I take someone who doesn't have one.

I just bought a LX3TC and after a few uses the screen/dial started moving?? Is this the bad motor problem? I contacted Marcum and they said send it in. I sent in the warranty card but don't have original receipt. If they try and charge me for the repair what are we talking $$?  I'm guessing they will do it under warranty, but I would want to know if they didn't.
OK on second thought I should e-mail Marcum with these questions...lol

In my experience, Marcum is great for repair service. I've sent a couple in and they sent them back no charge, even when warranty was up.

My wife surprised me a few days ago with a Marcum lx3 tc.

I have never used a flasher. Unit is quiet IMO, you hear the ticking off the ducer and a faint humming from the unit itself.

Don't know on battery life. I have used my on for a straight 6 hours with no issues at all. Screen is very bright, zoom works awesome for targeting specific parts of the water column, and I like the snow shield (it is a simple plastic cover but it helps.

The unit was bought brand new from Cabela's. Box had all original tape and nothing looked out of place. But when I looked at the battery, it was hooked up and it was a Zeus....I was not aware Marcum's came with Zeus batteries.
