Lowrance Ice Machines
« on: Oct 24, 2013, 01:15 AM »
I own a Lowrance x67c Ice machine and I love it. I started out with this model and use the graph mode religiously. For some reason I feel like upgrading to the Lowrance Elite 5x Ice Machine and also transfer it to my boat for the summer time. If I give my x67c to my father and we are in the same shack, will we get any interference from running two units? Does anyone have experience running two ice machines close together?

They both run at about the same frequency. You may be able to change it in the menu mode. Most of the time when we are close to each other in the same flip over we drill a hole in the middle and run one graph. Works, not the best but it works.

Dont know about the interfernce problem yet as i haven't had a chance to use my 68c next to my new elite 5, but you'll love the bigger screen on the five.

I`ve ran two x67-c ice machines very close to each other. There is not a problem. The units interference rejection will tune it out, units will & have always worked fine in close proximity.

If I were you I would wait for a good deal on an elite 5 with the GPS, otherwise I just don't see a huge difference between the ice machines. If you don't need the GPS than I understand going with the 5x. However if I was you I would wait for a deal, maye closer to Black Friday and try to get te elite 5 for a few more dollars.

Never ran my 4x next to another 4x, but when fishing with my buddy who has a FL18 I get a lot of interference, even 15-30 feet away.  However, the interference shows as tiny black dots in rows on the screen and does not affect the sonar to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for the info guys. I would not be against getting the 5 with gps. But I have heard that its not great up here in Northern Manitoba as their are no lake maps that load anyways. You will just see your track or way points on a white screen with no detail. For a nice unit like the 5 or 5x is it easy to use in my boat in the summer? What would I need to use the head unit for both?

The Elite 5 ice machines are on sale right now for $479. I just bought one from Marine General. Should be getting it tomorrow. I have an Elite 5x and love it. The GPS unit should be sweet.

Is the Elite 5x Ice Machine not a dual freq. unit and the X67c a single freq. unit.?
If so just run the Elite 5x Ice Machine on the other freq. than the X67c.

Even if the maps are not that good, the waypoints are invaluable!  I go to the same exact spot several times per year because of this feature.

The elite5 is a dual beam unit but the ice transducer is only capable of only the 20deg. 200khz.

It depends on the depth of water your fishin and the bottom structure. You can run x 67's close together in shallow water with a soft bottom, say less than 15 ft, with no problem. One lake we fish, we are in 25-40 ft of water with a rocky bottom and they interfere like crazy, even with the noise rejection set to high. You can tempoarily tune it out with the sensitivity adjustment but its an on going process. The deeper the water and the harder the bottom, the more they interfere in my experience.

I run a 67 and my buddies has the 68. We fish side by side with no issues whatsoever for the last 3 years. Im upgrading to the  elite 5 mostly due to larger screen and pixels. Gps will be nice as well.

I have the Elite-5 and was on Lake Michigan in late MAY fishing Steelhead with planerboards and trolling.  The Fishing was HOT and the more the FOG rolled in the HOTTER the fishing got.  We fished in (pea soup) I barely could see 25 feet... no biggy slamming fish :).  Well after 6 Steelheads (limit at that time) it was time to go home.  My brother started to panic... NO Problem I used the E5 GPS to follow the "back the trail".  It was so accurate we even entered the Breakwalls that had an opening maybe 200 foot across with ease and navigated the channel and the inner lake right to the boat launch.  So even No Maps in Northern Manitoba Lakes the GPS can save your life!!!  Bless :)
Fish FEAR ME ;)
