Sled for the ATV
« on: Nov 14, 2013, 09:34 AM »
Morning All! I have been using the information from this site for quite a while and it is extraordinary. I am shocked at all the awesome ideas and the ingenuity that the people have. I love researching ways to improve my gear from this website, and the latest idea I needed help with was a sled for hauling my Clam 6800 and all my gear.

I have built a sled out of 1" angle iron and the runners are built out of the material that lines the back of a beet truck. I want to say thanks to everyone for all the great ideas.

Nicely done however  pay attention when going over big bumps.   Your runners aren't curved,  rather sharp angles that just might dig in and come to an abrupt stop.

I finished painting the sled and the hitch I made so I loaded up everything and tested it. The whole system worked well except for the way I strapped it down. It works great to ratchet strap the house directly to the sled, but I need to figure out a way to secure the wood boxes and the auger. I do not want to many steps, as we all know, it gets cold once the heater is off!!

Nice sled, interesting hitch set up. As said, if the new sled hooks on anything you will be trying to rip the shack off the sled, I might to figure out how to hook the hitch to the sled.

Actually, I ran angle iron up the front of the sled to equal the height of the hitch. This way I am connected directly to the sled so I am hoping this design will allow some flex if I do hit something hard.

After using the sled, I learned the tow hitch needed to be mounted lower. Also, I found it was way to much work trying to strap the ice house and then strapping the boxes to the top. I think I will build sides on the sled and then put my stuff in there for transportation.
