Has anyone seen this auger in action. ESP in really cold weather.

Any opinions on a 4stroke in the cold compared to a 2?

I've written the Pro4 off, can't see propane being my friend at -37.

Any thoughts on the Jiffy 4G, the 4 stroke being used and the problems you think come with it?

Share...all opinions matter. "Betty" my Model 30 has some real time issues and after 10years I'm looking at fixing her up to be my stand by and getting a younger (gal) Auger....might name it (her) Matilda...not sure.

I almost can feel Betty's stare from the garage. Oh man.....lol.

Good fishin!

I have the Strikemaster with the 4 stroker never had a minutes problem.

Starts very easy in the cold and runs quiet as well as being very light.

Been hearing great things about them units Shotgun. Glad she's running tops for ya.

Betty, she'll be a great spare or gift to the boys as they age, but it was time.

I have been using the 4G propane for the last 2 years.  It's been a great auger, starts 1st or 2nd pull every time and lots of power.  I would buy it again

Ya, I thought about the "pro4/model 40", but feared propane in the cold would be an issue....has it been for you at all gyman98?

No it hasn't but the coldest I've started it at was -30c (left outside overnight as a test) .  They say propane flows down to -44F but I've noticed you want a bottle that's closer to the full side when it's cold.  Also since its 4 stroke and propane I set the power head in the back seat of the truck so the tank is warm then.

Thanks for the temp specific info amd the operation of the pro4.

I can't wait to make another trip to Sask for some perch....I found them once, they were in Saskatchewan. Lol.

We took a buddies propane Jiffy out for it's maiden voyage around Christmas time.  It was around -20.  Started great but took a good five minutes of warming up before it would think about drilling holes.  Is this just because it's new?  Once it got goin it drilled like a bugger.

That doesn't sound right.  I don't remember mine ever doing that.  I usually let it warm up for 30 seconds or so but it would drill right away if I wanted it too

Ryan I got the Jiffy 4g, took a bit of tuning just to get the throttle screws adjusted but after that drills great.  Starts 2nd pull even after sitting out in the cold.
My only issue was when we had the humidity last year the auger bit ices up real fast right on the center

Have you been loyal to sitting it the spark plug side up Jason22, had issues on the ice leaving it on its side and then drilling ? Transport issues?

Thanks for the info and let's get out soon again man!

Well, so far so good.

Put the oil in last night. Got fresh gas this morning in a new jerry.

Filled the gas res. Followed the instructions to the letter and on the second pull she started. Then first pull three times after that. It sure was quieter than I thought it would be. Other than the first start and warm up, very little fumes....I feel.

Now to get on the ice with it.

Well once I fix the throttle handle it will be a great unit.

No stress on it at all and it cracked.

A metal bicycle one will do the trick.

It cuts like a beast. Even pulling on the cable with a couple fingers. Lol. (Um, ya. Don't do that.)

I wish I could figure out how to post my fix to my jiffy 4G stock cheap (crap IMO) plastic throttle handle.

Took an old bicycle handle and am using it. It's design enables an easy change out of both a stock handle back into the unit or a new cable. It also now goes down towards the handle you push down with your thumb...instead of pulling the throttle in with your thumb. I kinda hated that actually. I find now I let of the throttle a bit sooner and smoother ....will this will help when I break through the ice I hope. Just make it "better" than it was.

I used this auger and knew I wanted it before I bought it but never dreamed trip two I'd be improving on the handle. I expected it to break but crack in half...wow.

Anyway. I've named my new Auger: Frankenauger!

Well that worked about ten times. Now it just will not "spring back" leaving the auger wide open.

Tomorrow will be time to make calls to the store I bought it at, jiffy and local authorized service reps" for the proper part.

Bad Frankenauger!

They have a video for the fix. Not hard to figure out.

The brake handle I am using will not allow it to spring back.

Grrr.

No nut backing the metal bike handle and she springs back good.

Can't start it up til tomorrow afternoon.

Oh, Frankenauger!

(I need to figure out how to post pics again).

Good fishin.

Made a few adjustments. It ripped well.

Springs back better than out of the box IMO and I can grip the auger in a way I like better as well.
