Ice thickness
« on: Dec 28, 2013, 04:20 PM »
The girls indicated that they may want to go out on the ice but only if we have to drive at most 10 minutes.

So I went to a local pond to check the ice. Got to the lake at 4pm. Just accidentally I had a jig rod and the flasher in the car with the chisel and auger  ;D

Good news is that there were a solid 7 inches of ice - 4 nice black ice on the bottom with 3 inches of slush-ice on top.

I made use of that 30 minutes until sunset and was able to get onto a school of bluegills. The flasher was a great help, they were coming up fast.

They seemed to be around 7 inches as well, here are two

I also met some guys on dirt bikes who were riding around for 30 minutes and when I was leaving they asked me how much ice there was. Maybe I do not understand causality well enough but this seemed backwards to me.

Now I just hope that the ladies won't change their mind and we really go back tomorrow.

Here is a picture of the beautiful sunset

Nice photo. Wouldn't be surprised if some of those tracks are mine, haha.
But, for some reason all I seem to catch there are 3 inch perch...

Made it back to the ice today with the girls. The parking lot was almost full, lots of guys fishing in the great weather. Set up where I left off yesterday - there was enough freezing overnight that the holes needed to be chiseled out.

Today jigging did not really work for us, only managed to get a small yellow perch. The girls did get to see how awesome it is to fish with the flasher though. Traps worked really well, we caught a nice medley of NH fish.

A few pictures
