Pond at Pelican Point on the Missouri
« on: Dec 23, 2013, 10:39 AM »
Has anyone ever ice fished this?  I hear that it is loaded with crappie?  I was wondering if it is safe to ice fish.  I never see anyone doing it while I am out goose hunting...

i have fished it a hand full of times and never caught any crappie out of it. that's not to say they aren't in there, just never caught any, or even heard of anyone catching them there. mostly perch and a few largemouth from my understanding.

Same thing I have heard.  Let us know if this isn't accurate.

There are also some pike in there now. My boys started catching them a couple of years ago in there. Probably planted by some @##@!!* bucket biologist.  >:(

caught a 6lb northern out of there this summer, and a few years ago we were catching a TON of perch, but don't know the status now!  The ice should be great since it is so small.

I have ice fished it and fished in the summer lots of small perch and small bluegill and some decent bass never have caught any pike from there but know they are in there... drill lots of holes as you walk a few years ago I was there on 7 inches of ice and moved to the end closer to the river and it was about 1 inch of ice.  as long as ice is good there is a good deep spot by the island

I would stay away from the northeast corner if you don't want too ruin your auger. There are places there that the bottom is just under the surface.

Just got back. walked to about knee deep maybe waist deep and only 2-3 inches of ice. pretty scary, told my boy to stay on the bank until I test drilled! Does anybody know what is in the little pond on your left as you cross the tracks? saw that someone drilled a bunch of holes and there's a pretty well worn trail heading down to it.

I was there yesterday and saw a boat pickup at the launch. Ice is still way to thin on the pond.
