Thanks for the info.  Maybe that will cut down on the questions about safe ice from those who are not willing to find out for themselves.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the info.  I've never fish that far.  Enjoy the Rover.  My wife and I each have our own and we love them.  Haven't had the two man 3000 out since I bought those.  I don't know why I don't sell it.  Probably because I think that someday my son might go with me again.

If they could just invent some kind of satellite laser thickness gauge from space we could all log onto and just point and aim at the location on the lake you want to fish and it gives you the ice density and thickness.

It would save iceman a ton of gas bucks....LOL

Maybe  ice fishing ....in 2050
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

I'm sorry, but isn't the whole point of this website to post information for other anglers on possible ice conditions and to help people out? Not all anglers live near lakes and can check for themselves. Some people live an hour and a half plus from good fisheries and cant make the trek out to pop a couple holes to make sure there's decent ice. Its members like you that ruin it for all the rookies and comments like that that keep others from joining because they don't want to feel like idiots or be ridiculed for something they post. I live at least 2 hours from decent lakes, so, "net surfing", as you like to call it, helps a whole hell of a lot. Thanks iceman for posting this info. Im sure it helps a lot of people out, including myself.

theres more ppl than just 'members' watching these boards. yes this site is to help each other. but to keep the crowds off of 'ur preferred waters' u can send p.m.'s and establish freindships with others on the site to exchange certain info. if u wanna go fish a certain lake and are unsure of ice condition.. go spud it and drill it, have a plan b, plan c and so on.. u dont have a lake worthy within 2 hrs of ur house i find that hard to believe cause if u open up a map of indiana. boy there sure are a ton of lakes. even google maps on ur 'smart phone' will show them. there are reports of fishable ice coming across the board. this site does give plenty of usefull information, sit back and dig through the threads. ex: high tide talks about breaking down the blue gill jig, many different aspects of info given, deaper than i ever dreamed of but they arent being 'open' on when and where if u notice. i gave info on walleye bites. others are sharing crappie bites. soon enough the perch jerkers will be on board. there is tons and tons of info on different gear and tactics. yet all the time guys are asking about ice, ice and more ice. we all have spent the gas to find it now give it up to hundreds and thousands of ppl to see that arent helping give forth effort on other lakes???! hmmm, seems unfair after all arent we trying to be fair to each other and help as you stated?? good luck in ur ventures on the ice, stay safe, yes, there is good ice, now explore it.

Hey MountCarmelStud -

I totally agree that this site is to help promote the great sport of fishing, but you have to understand that there are a lot of jerks out there who like to keep things to themselves.  I am going to The Slough this weekend and will let you know what the ice conditions are and also how well I did.  This is the first time I have hopped on this site in a while since I have been busy with my career and such.  In fact, this is the first time I will be ice fishing in two years, so I'm pretty excited about it. If you are free, PM me and we can meet up.

It looks like you live in the Chicago, so driving out to The Slough isn't feasible for someone like you, and it's completely ignorant for any idiot to think that you have the free time to drive that far just to spud and drill for a little while.  I would think that if someone doesn't work for a living,or lives relatively close to a lake may have the time to do that.

Don't let the few  'members' on here deter you from participating in this great site.  There are more friendly members on here who are willing to offer there experiences.

Tight lines all!!
