Ice?
« on: Dec 03, 2013, 10:36 PM »
Hello from Boise!

With this weeks colder weather, does anyone know if Pelican Lake (vernal) will be fishable by this weekend? I've watched reports over the past couple seasons from down there and want to get a trip in. I'm originally from South Dakota (moved out west a little over a year ago) and have a real weakness for big bluegills. I'm not much into the trout scene although they do fight.

Thanks in advance guys. Hope all had a great Thanksgiving!
Andy

The website utahfishfinder.com is sometimes a good resource.  It can be a little out of date at times though, but it's better than nothing.  It lists reports on most of Utah's reservoirs.

I fished there today and there is more ice than you need . 8 inches easy  Fished from 11 till 4 and caught 20 bass and 1 bluegill !! Didn't even go look for bluegill or no need to with bass action like that.

Sounds like a good trip night runner and welcome to the shanty, a few more posts and the reports and conditions page will open up for you along with the ones from other states that have them. I have yet to ice a bass but im sure one day it will happen  ;D

I was using a Gitzit small fry in about 6.5 ft. of water. No bait added. The darker colors worked the best and jigging real slow produced the most hits. Good luck if you get out there!!
