Strikemaster whats up????
« on: Dec 24, 2013, 11:36 PM »
I bought this auger with high hopes 2 seasons ago, sold off my 15 year old Jiffy thinking Id be getting something better...Was I mistaken. Took it out the other day and and found out the primer bulb once pushed in wont retract out in the cold...not a huge deal but an inconvenience. After dealing with that problem I drill 6 holes and on number 7 I hear a snap and she doesn't drill anymore. Take it apart in the garage ( after loosing a half day fishing) and find the clutch cup gear snapped. You would be shocked to see how poorly this part was made.
So after I pull this apart I go to log onto the Strikemaster website and they dont allow Canadians on the site and they redirect me to Rapala which has ZERO useful info,,no Strikemaster parts, manuals ect... So I call the store I purchased the auger and they say they no longer deal with them....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHH Im ready to kill someone. I finally got my part ordered but this is the last Strikemaster I buy as they have really poor Canadian service. Buyers beware of poorly made junk!!!!!

Sorry to hear your troubles. Did you hit anything in that last hole or was it drilling just fine before it snapped? Please don't tell us it had any plastic in the clutch.

Go buy a Tanaka and if you have a 10 inch on your strikemaster keep it, its a awesome combo, and the tanaka has a 7 year warranty.  Only drawback to the tanaka is its $700 buck before taxes and that's just the power head.

Well I have no issue spending more to get a quality product, may look into that Tanaka or a Husky. I just can't belive how bad these new Strikemasters really are. Im sure they are fine for the guys down south that never get 2 feet of ice and -30 temps. Really ticks me off that they offer zero support, can't even view their website for crying out loud.

A lot of guys are having issues with the strikemasters and eskimo's, you couldn't give me one, wonder if the jiffy's are any better, I'd be afraid to try, much better off with a husqvarna or a tanaka, if i couldn't afford it I would hand drill until I could!

Tanaka Power Head then add the Flighting of your choice. As long as its not a backwards Jiffy.
Thats Why They Call It Fishing.

Well  Ive decided Im goona fix it up then sell it as quick as possible. Let someone else deal with this poorly made piece of equipment. Im sure it would be ok for the guy who goes once a year, after that its simply not reliable.

That is a shame. No pride left with these companies, Make them cheap as possible and let the consumer pay to repair. I will never get rid of either of my 2 old jiffy 30's. They are bullet proof. Learn to fix them yourself (easy) and you will never be sorry. I wish they were lighter as the older I get, the heavier they get. I suppose they are heavy because the are built heavier and tougher. I still watch for them at yardsales. Each of my sons have one and young guys razz them as being antiques.  Till they see them in action.  No laughing then.  Good luck with whatever you get next    Steve

My 1982 Jiffy 30 is still going strong. It's on its 4th spark plug; everything else is original.
