Help a brother out!
« on: Dec 13, 2013, 06:39 PM »
I need to convince my shanty partner to put our hut on blocks! If you have any horror stories please share so I can forward this thread to him. We are fishing out of a 8x8 with 6inch permanent skis.

I have a couple questions for you. Do you move the hut often or does it usually stay put? Do you have a good spud?                                                                                                                                                                                             I always lift my hut because it stays in 1 spot for the season and the repeated opening of the holes  floods the inside area around the skiis and will freeze in if not lifted.
If we get any warm days at all it will also freeze in.
It's always a good idea to lift the hut. It takes much longer to chisel it out than it does to lift it up.

I had a partner like that 1 time. I now have my own hut(s) and let people fish with me. I build them, heat them and enjoy them my way.

I have never had a  per hut.

but I  think  their  would  be no logical  point to NOT  blocking it  up.

Seems as your just asking for a  lot of work

good luck hope you  get a  good axe  for  Christmas

Had a permy for several years, one winter never got out to it after a rain and thaw to block it up more. Long and short of the story is the ice got above the floor and froze and froze it in solid. Had to destroy the hut to remove. Always always take the time to block it up

Put it on blocks, I had to help a friend for hours one year because his hut was stuck in the ice, it was a real pain.
He now put his on blocks and I now have a pop up hub shelter for this reason haha.
