All I use are wax worms.    That's about all we get out here.   Have been thinking about ordering some colored spikes to try online.   Not sure if many use them.

Spikes, cheaper, last longer, move on the hook and best of all they catch fish. Just received our annual order the other day and they were 6 bucks a thousand. Can't beat that for a price, by the way it was from Vados Bait Express.

spikes>wax worms

The durability of them far exceeds what you get out of wax worms.  As for ordering them, I have always went through Speedy Worm and been more than satisfied with Debbie and her customer service.  Several times she has went above and beyond to make sure we got our order before we left town for tournaments.

Usually use plastics or wax worms, but I ordered some red spikes to try yesterday morning from Vados. Hank, how long does it usually take once you put the order in? Mine is still showing "Pending"

Waxies because there easier to get ahold of... who stores them in the fridge and who stores them in the basement?

I use both. Always get them from Jada bait. I'm trying to get in the habit of using plastics more often, such as the Gulp! Fry.

I was storing my waxies in the basement for the last week which stays about 65 degrees, but I had a mess of them dying so I put them in the fridge. I place the waxies in an empty plastic gallon ice cream containers and pitch the blue containers they come in. Spikes do seem way more durable no doubt.

I find that my waxworms do much better in my garage (temp around 45-50 F) than my refrigerator (temp around 35 F), but spikes and/or maggots will make it in the refrigerator (with weekly removal of the few dead ones that pop up) into April if need be.

The big issue is convincing my wife that it's "ok" to have maggots in the refrigerator.

I use both spikes and waxworms, I buy 500 of each at once and take both with me all the time just to have options.

Think I'll try someone other than Vados next time.  Got my order, maggots are fine, waxies are dead.  Not a single one moving.  I bet they froze, it's cold here.

I had the same experience and was super worried and called Vados- but of course they were gone for the day. once the WW warmed up for an hour or so they started going crazy. As long as they aren't completely frozen I think you'll be good

it's been 17 hrs since they showed up,  they're inside and sitting in a basement window well now.  They're dead, poured them all out onto a plate, not even one moving.

Damn super sorry man, definitely know how you feel. I must have gotten lucky then cause I was for sure mine were dead. I would send them an email if you haven't already so you are within the 24 hours of contact within receiving the bait. I am not sure if they will refund or send you more or not, that's what I was worried about.

I emailed and left a phone message.  shipping was $10 you'd think they'd pack them better.
