Coldest Winter Ever, eh.
« on: Mar 12, 2014, 04:23 PM »
The December through February average temperature in the southern UP was only 7.2°. I am sure I will not remember/care about this come August, but man spring is looking really good right about now.   ;D

What? Spring brings the end of ice fishing! How can you say that on this forum? ::)

Thirty five years in construction here. Believe me, spring is something to look forward to! Besides golfing is just too hard in the snow.  ;)

Looking forward to a good/long season of late ice! Maybe lakes and rivers will still be frozen for trout opener and maybe even walleye/pike opener at this rate.

In '96 a friend and I went down to Lac Vieux Desert for the 2nd weekend of the Pike/Walleye season. It was the 2nd weekend of May. While we were able to put our boat in at one launch site, where there was a river coming into the lake nearby, there were still lots of people walking around on the ice and fishing on probably 90% of the lake. I don't know what the ice thickness was for the opener but Lake Medora lost it's ice on Memorial Day weekend that year.
