which line?
« on: Nov 24, 2013, 03:39 PM »
New season. Means new line on the reels.
In the past I have just had thorne bros. put on their 2lb trilene.
Haven't had any issues.

But when looking down the isles @ stores, there have got to be 30+ different brands and types in each brand.

I understand it depends on the type of fish you fish for.

I have a panfish rod/reel.
And pike rod/ reel.

1 of my pike reels have braid from last year.  And the other has micro fire ( or micro ice/ fire fly?  Sorry I don't recall ). They told me last yr the braid is fine to keep on for the next season.  But the other line should be replaced.

What line are you using and why?

Though I was convinced last year that the pline floroice was different than the floroclear, I'm pretty certain it's the same now. I'm going to try to do a few tests, but I'm pretty sure this is one of those cases that a company just labeled its normal line as ice line, put it on a smaller spool and rose the price. I've seen a few comments on IDO as well that someone spoke to a different rep that I did there once and he too said it was the same.

Love the bionic ice line. I used to use suffix and completely switched. Use 2-4 lb depending on what I am fishing. 2 for pan and 4 for walleye. Use 3 for crappie.
Yes Virginia....Santa does ice fish

Spooled up some Sufix Ice Magic this year and was really impressed with how little icing up I had on the line yesterday compared to the Trilene Cold Weather I used last year.

I use suffic ice orange and bionic in blue camo. Both seem to perform well with little to no memory.
