is there anyone that sharpens auger blades in the area or is it wise just to buy new?

I use a hand sharpener for my auger and it does a good job...it's not a gas powered auger though.

Both... It is always best to have a spare set with you.

Don't know where you're located but there is a small shop in Woonsocket (hockey town) near Mt.St.Charles that sharpens Eskimo style blades. For my Jiffy with the Ripper Gripper type blades I send them out to fish307 a sponsor of this site. They take your blades and send out sharpened blades back( not necessarily yours). Pretty cheap, fast and I haven't been let down by them yet. PM me if you need or want more info.

You can sharpen them with a diamond file.
